Deming, NM

(Chuck) Things have changed quite a bit since we last wrote. Christmas was a great get together, however Brent and Donna and their family could not make it to our house. Elizabeth was sick and it prevented their travel. Jan and I went to Ames on the 24th and brought their presents and helped them celebrate Christmas at their house. To add to the excitement Brent had taken the kids sleigh riding the day before and had broken his leg. He was confined to the bed and was in some pain, however things always seem to work out. He will have a cast on it and we expect things will be fine. Eric and Cheri and Josh and Sarah stayed with us and we had a great time. Ryan, Jessica, Alison and baby Isaac kept us smiling. It was good to spend time with them, and a “good time was had by all”.

We did get the trailer packed and “escaped” Iowa on New Years Day, 2008. The first night was spent in Liberal, Kansas and the weather was very cold. I could write a book about the last week, however I will spare you the time. The important thing is that we have started on our journey and we feel great about it. We are now at the Escapees Dreamcatcher Park in Deming, New Mexico. The temperatures allow us to wear a sweatshirt and that feels great. As we go west to Yuma it will get warmer. We really enjoy the camaraderie and friendliness of the people that we have met in this Escapee Park. I am sure that the world is full of a lot of great people and I want to meet more of them.

Tomorrow we leave Deming and continue our journey. We will stop in Yuma for about a week. Jackie and Butch will meet us there and we will spend time with my parents. It was Gale’s 85th birthday on New Years Eve so we will help him celebrate.

Happy Trails
