(Jan) Last Thursday found Chuck & I back at our boondocking spot near Soldotna. We were just in time to join Ron & Bernita, Judy and Sally for a fun game of Pegs & Jokers, followed by a farewell potluck. Our Soldotna friends Robin & Jack joined us and we had a great time. Everyone was making travel plans for the rest of the summer. Sandy & Keith had left the group on Monday, Jack & Robin were leaving on Sunday. Gregg & Sally, Dean & Judy and Chuck & I headed to Seward on Saturday and Ron & Bernita left for Valdez on Sunday. Some friends we will meet along the road south, others hopefully in another season. It’s been good traveling together and we thank everyone for their heartwarming friendship. It’s been a good summer in Alaska!
Friday we did a lot of visiting, a little cleaning and Judy, Bernita & I went to a craft & quilt show in the afternoon. That evening we were back at Hooligan’s to watch Hobo Jim performs one more time. He put on an amazing show which included a guest performance by a young man named Connor who helped him sing ‘Fishin for Chicken’ and ‘I did the Ididorod Trail’. Such a fun evening.
Soldotna celebrates Progress Days each July with a parade and festivities. Our RV group watched the parade and had fun cheering on the entries. In the afternoon we watched the talented woodcarvers and the stroll through the booths at the country fair.
