Boomerville 2015

IMG_20150122_181813215_HDR

(Chuck) We have been to this gathering of Escapee Boomers for the last eight years. It is a great time to spend with friends in the desert by Quartzsite, AZ. Some of these friends we will only see once a year, with others we seem to share laughter with many times throughout the year. Boomerville is full of scheduled activities. There is no obligation to attend any or all of them. There are no officers, rules or structure within the Boomers. It is a group which gathers for social enjoyment. The thing which I appreciate most is there is almost no complaining about spouses or partners. We all live in RV’s because we enjoy travel and each other.

(Jan)  We parked in our usual area on the north side of Main Street with Loren and Duane & Betty for neighbors.  We would sit out in our lawn chairs often and soon more people came with chairs to visit. It’s one of our favorite things about this place. There were so many fun people here ready to share life & laughter and loads of fun activities.P1160112

My sister-in-law, Scarlett, stopped by to visit us! She was on her way from Tucson to the Bay area and was able to stay over Friday night with us. She & I walked around Boomerville chatting with people, attended Happy Hour and then we had a ‘Burn your Own’ Potluck with our neighbors. We played a fun game of Telephone Pictionary after dinner, had dessert and then visited. Pictured at right are Duane, Loren, Bill & Sue, Mark & Patsi, Larry, Scarlett and Chuck with Jan, Betty and Connie in back. The next morning Scarlett joined us and other Boomer’s for Pancakes at the Host tent and then it was time to say Good-bye. So very glad for our visit!

244Sunday the 17th was Football Play-Off Day for the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks.  Our friends Mark & Patsy, new Boomers, had planned to go out but decided to watch the game instead and invited us over to watch the game on their outside TV. As with many parties that aren’t planned, people gathered with chairs, drinks15927_900621949969344_7968511293661033197_n (1) and food. What a good time 15 or so of us had watching the game and cheering!

This year I entered the Chili Cook-Off at Boomerville. On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, the competing chilis were brought to the fire ring along with lots of other yummy side dishes. Luckily my entry came in 2nd.  Here I am with First Place Terry and Third Place Jim! 10537874_10205616272543568_2434955747855744592_n

(Chuck) Each year at Boomerville we hold an auction which is a fundraiser for CARE. Escapees CARE, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit adult day care and residency program designed for RV’ers whose travels are interrupted or reduced because of, age, injury, sickness or surgery. It is located in Livingston, Texas, adjoining Rainbow's End campground and Escapees headquarters. At several Boomer events throughout the year we raise money which we proudly send to CARE. For more information about CARE, go to this page:  http://www.escapeescare.org/questions.php   Chuck was one of four auctioneers 10945714_1397001003935067_4848834238437955780_n (1)who along with many people gave their time to arrange the fundraiser. Jan was a “Vanna White” which is our term for the beautiful ladies who present the items to be auctioned.

P1240867We cruised with Betty and Duane last September and we attended a Murder Mystery dinner on the ship. It was conducted around a table set for eight participants. We were each given a booklet with our character backgrounds and the scenario of our timeline while the murder took place. Each of us had good motive and opportunity to be the murderer. One booklet revealed to the holder that he was the murderer. At the end we each gave our guess of who the murderer was and then he was revealed to all. It was a fun occasion and we decided that it might make for a good time in Boomerville. We presented it as An Evening OF Wine, Cheese, Chocolate and Murder. The affair was auctioned at the CARE auction and raised $475 dollars due to the generosity of Judie and Mark, Bill and Gisela, Larry and Connie and Frank and Dianne.  Betty and Duane and Jan and I hosted the four couples in our rig and we had a great time.

10947256_1395613447407156_5628282301023494246_n(Jan) Betty & Duane and Chuck & I did several walk-abouts to see & talk to all who were parked in Boomerville. On the last full day, Mark & Patsy came with Karaoke -7098us. Mark referred to it as a knock-about as we knocked on several doors so they could meet people. We joined Bill & Gisela, Betty & Duane and Mark & Judie for a fire one evening and on another evening Betty & Duane hosted another ‘Burn your Own’.  Add to that, Zumba, a Dance Karoke Party by the Fire Ring and so many other activities and 2015 will be chalked up as one of the Best Boomervilles ever! Thanks for your energy and ideas, Hosts George and Diana and Co-Hosts Bob & Gretchen!

2014 rolls into 2015

Boomers reduced res-6350

(Jan) Borrego Springs was our home for the close of the year 2014. Boomer couples Duane & Betty, Mark & Judie and Bill & Gisela joined us out on Rock House Road to Boondock & bring in the new year. So what do eight sixty-somethings do to celebrate New Years? Our Creative Director & Professional Photographer Judie had us wearing 2015 glasses and writing with flash lights! We also sang a ton of oldies around the campfire!

Carlees Lunch Bunch (2)Games of Desert Bocci Ball were played outside and hilarious games of Telephone Pictionary were played inside.

We drove into Borrego Springs to eat at Carlee’s on New Years New Years 2014-6442Eve Day and then returned several days later because the food was so good.

New Years Day we sat down to a feast of Trash can turkey & all the fixings, Irish stew and several yummy salads; great food with friends in a gorgeous setting!

On Sunday night we caravanned over to Fonts Point to watch the Sunset.  There’s a gorgeous view of the ‘badlands’ of Borrego and a great place to have Happy Hour and watch the sunset. Chuck got this great photo of our group.

On the 4th Chuck and I went to join our friends Dean & Judy over on Ogilby Road near Yuma. We enjoyed lots of visiting over morning coffee and a campfire or two. They were looking for a new Motor Home and found just what they were looking for on the first day.  We were able to join them on the sales lot to look it over. So exciting! The rest of the Borrego group joined us after a couple of days. Our routines settled into everyone getting chores, bookwork, laundry, haircuts and repairs done but we did take time for coffee in the mornings each day and Happy Hours in the afternoon. On the 10th we all drove over to the Yuma Foothills to a gathering that Ron & Sharon were hosting.  Ron grilled hot dogs and we all brought side dishes. It was very nice to see lots of Boomers that we hadn’t seen in a while  Judie got a group photo of the 72 of us!

Mead Party 2015

That brings us up to the present; Boomerville! It’s time for the Boomer’s annual gathering in the southeast corner of Scadden Wash BLM land near Quartzsite. We’ll be here for a couple of weeks enjoying 200 or so of our old and new best friends.

A Special Family Christmas

0029451d4e3dbc41c5f064c20da1ec5ec87(Jan) Hugs, laughter, Christmas trees and great food with our families was the Theme for a very special 2014 Christmas. Chuck and I left our Motor Home in storage facility in Borrego Springs and then drove the 2 hours over the roller coaster mountain roads in the dark to the San Diego airport, a trip we will not repeat! We flew from San Diego to Seattle on December 23 for six days of family filled fun.  Our first stop was the Spieker residence to visit with Chuck’s family; Joanne, Jackie &IMG_20141224_104229827_HDR Butch and Emily. We had a joyous time visiting and playing Rumikub. On the 24th we joined them plus their grandsons Sam & Joshua for their annual food fest which includes all of their favorite hors d’oeuvres and candies. Yum! We went to church that evening and then dined on the Moore traditional Oyster Stew. On Christmas morning Butch fixed all of us bacon & eggs and then we took time for several more games of Joanne’s favorite game Rumikub. It was so nice to see everyone. Thanks to Jackie & Butch for letting us stay in their charming cabin! IMG_20141224_151121307_HDR

That afternoon we arrived at Josh & Sarah’s house to smiles and growing children and great smells coming from the kitchen. Sarah was preparing a marvelous rib roast dinner with all of the trimmings. Eric, Cheri, Ryan & Jess soon arrived and we sat down to the feast at a beautifully appointed table. Gift giving and dessert followed! What a joyful occasion.

20141226_224927041_iOSSeattleGreatWheelThe following day we joined Josh & Sarah and family downtown Seattle for their traditional Family Scavenger Hunt. It was great fun following the clues and seeing a Gingerbread House display, riding the Mono-rail, seeing the Space Needle, visiting the International Fountain, seeing a model train display and having lunch near-by, buying crab for dinner at Pike Place Market, riding the 175 foot tall Great Wheel on the water front, having Butterbeer in Ballard and finishing with a delicious Thai dinner in Lynnwood! What a marvelous day! 20141226_212748738_iOS (1)

Saturday was a stay-at-home day and the kids (and adults)  had a chance to try out their Christmas toys! We also played several hilarious games of Telephone Pictionary and then had fun watching our sayings and drawing develop on the big screen TV. That evening we were treated to an amazing Dungeon and King crab feast along with fresh bread for dipping, oven roasted vegetables and fresh fruit. 10885079_10152465804001619_819026793404067710_nYum! That evening we played another round of Telephone Pictionary and a Musicology game.

Sunday morning was our last day with the kids and grandkids. It was also our 46th Anniversary and the kids honored us by singing and with a candle on our breakfast brownie cake! SO happy to be with four of our six sons and daughter-in-laws and six of our twelve grandchildren on this special day!

We finished our Sunday at Jackie & Butch’s eating pizza, watching the Seahawks FB game and playing Rumikub with them, Joanne and Emily. It has been so wonderful having time with all of the wonderful people in our families.  Special thanks to Jackie & Butch, J&S’s friends Aaron & Anne and Josh & Sarah for graciously housing us those six days. It was very much appreciated!

Monday morning found us back at Sea-Tac airport ready to fly to San Diego where we picked up our Jeep and headed for Borrego Springs to be re-united with our Motorhome.  Our Family Christmas 2014 was wonderful.
